No, Wi-Fi is not required to activate your modem or use Connected Services. After you download the Ford app, you can connect your Ford vehicle to your phone vehicle using just your smartphone and your cellular service data plan. Message and data rates may apply. Is Wi-Fi® required for over-the-air software updates?
No, Wi-Fi is not required as most software updates are downloaded and installed while you drive, if you have automatic updates turned on, via the vehicle's activated modem. Some software updates require the vehicle to be parked with the ignition off during installation, in which case we encourage you to use Wi-Fi to help ensure a faster, uninterrupted download. When not connected to Wi-Fi, software updates will be delivered directly to your vehicle using the vehicle modem via cellular connection.
I bought my Ford vehicle used. Do I get any complimentary free trials?
Currently, complimentary trials are included on eligible new and certified pre-owned Ford vehicle purchases with trial lengths varying by model. But you can still connect your phone to your Ford vehicle via the Ford app to view, purchase, and manage available Connected Services.
